Instrumental music from Iceland has long been unknown to most people, something the project Danslög Jónasar has aimed to change. Based on a music manuscript from 1865 by Jónas Helgason, the music has been placed in context and interpreted in light of other knowledge of Icelandic fiddle music.
At the seminar, the work on publishing both a book and recordings will be presented, along with a discussion of how this music fits into a Nordic tradition.
Chris Foster is a folk musician based in Iceland, one of the editors of the publication, and a board member of the Vaka Folk Festival in Reykjavík.Vegar Vårdal is a folk musician from Norway, who has contributed to the interpretation of the manuscript and archival recordings. Together with historian Mette Vårdal, he has written about the Icelandic fiddlers.

Instrumentalmusikk fra Island har vært ukjent for de fleste, noe prosjektet Danslög Jónasar har hatt som mål å gjøre noe med. Med utganspunkt i et musikkmanuskript fra 1865 etter Jónas Helgason, er musikken satt i kontekst og forsøkt tolket ut fra annen kjennskap til Islandsk felemusikk.
På seminaret presenteres arbeidet med utgivelse av bok og musikk, og hvordan denne musikken plasserer seg i en nordisk tradisjon.
Chris Foster er folkemusiker bosatt på Island, en av redaktørene for utgivelsen og sitter i styret for Vaka folk festival i Reykjavik. Vegar Vårdal er folkemusiker fra Norge, men har deltatt i arbeidet med å tolke notemateriale og arkivopptak. Sammen med Mette Vårdal, historiker, har han skrevet om de Islandske spillemennene.
